Geri Halliwell Says She Was Weak To Delete Margaret Thatcher Tweet
Geri Halliwell says she has been left feeling 'full of self doubt' following a public backlash after deleting a tweet in support of Margaret Thatcher
Geri Halliwell says the furore she faced after deleting her tweet describing the late Margaret Thatcher as ‘the first lady of girl power’ left her feeling ‘weak’ and ‘full of self-doubt’.
The former Spice Girl faced a backlash from fans when, in the wake of the former Prime Minister’s death, she tweeted: ‘Thinking of our 1st Lady of girl power, Margaret Thatcher, a green grocer’s daughter who taught me any thing is possible…x.’
After facing a heavy backlash from angered followers, Geri, 40, quickly deleted the post and apologised to anyone she may have offended.
MARGARET THATCHER STYLE RETROSPECTIVE
Now Halliwell has taken to her website to explain how she felt ‘confused and overwhelmed’ and has expressed her regret after deleting the tweet, explaining: ‘When I’m scared, my natural state is to hide and run for cover.’
‘I questioned myself? Did I really mean what I said? Can I stand tall? Do I even know what I was talking about? I realised the best thing to do was to shut up and really get honest with myself. What I hated the most was that I took a tweet down. I had wavered and was full of self-doubt,’ she admitted.
She added that she removed the tweet as she was “so afraid” of upsetting people, questioning whether she really knew enough about Thatcher’s history.
